Natalia Romanova(Black Widow)の育ての親Ivan Petrovitchが殺された。彼女に「"Icepick Protocol"が発動された」という警告を残して。 "Icepick Protocol"は、彼女が昔接触した恋人、友人、仲間を死に至らしめるという。Nataliaは、血清を持ち、過去の記憶と対面するため旅立つのだった…。
映画「アイアンマン２」でスカーレット・ヨハンソンが演じることでも注目を集めるBlack Widowのオリジン全４話。
昔の恋人や仲間に会いに行かなければならない状況に、過去のシーンを巧みに取り入れる演出は見事だと思います。
NatashaもIvanも、ロシア版ヒーロー血清を打っているため歳をとらないのですね。これで第一次世界大戦からいたことにも納得です。ようやく霧が晴れました。
Daredevil, Hawk Eye, Herculesなどなどいろいろな過去のシーンが出てきますが、あくまでサラッとで、読んでいるうちにNatashaの過去をもっと知りたくなること請け合いです。
IvanはNatashaを愛してしまいますが、NatashaはIvanを父親としてしか見ることができません。
そんなふうで拒否されたIvanの慟哭が印象的でした。
"You think of me like you think of Mother Russia. A nice warm feeling, as long as you can play the field. You have no idea how you've hurt me all these years. Watching you pick favorites as the old certainties fell apart. It was like... an icepick. Through my heart. God help me."
全体的に哀愁漂うエピソードで、ますますNatashaが好きになりました。
