夏休みを伯母一家が経営する旅館で過ごすことになった少年・恭平。仕事で訪れた湯川も、その宿に滞在することを決めた。翌朝、もう一人の宿泊客が変死体で見つかった。その男は定年退職した元警視庁の刑事だという。彼はなぜ、この美しい海を誇る町にやって来たのか…。これは事故か、殺人か。湯川が気づいてしまった真相とは―。

人が人を思いやるあまり引き起こされた悲劇。
よかったです。堪能させていただきました。
湯川さん、言動も台詞も恰好いいですね。
私は推理寄りのお話より、こういう人情味溢れたお話の方がやはり好きなようです。
法律がすべてだとは思わないし、こういう解決方法があってもいいと思う。
「容疑者Ｘの献身」に匹敵するよいお話でした。
